...to the most self indulgent shit i've done in a while!

this is [community profile] chillwaves, named and modeled after shitty 2010s 8tracks and music blog core aesthetics. this is dreamwidth we're on a truckstop journal website that looks straight outta 2007. let's own it and have some fun and share some banger music in the process.

this comm's whole thing is music - more specifically, playlists, mixtapes, fanmixes, literally ANYTHING that involves putting four or more songs together by different artists as a set. share your playlists! share their cover art and track-lists and spotify embeds and even pics of your physical copies of them if you do that too! do whatever! have fun!

some ground rules:

  1. be respectful and kind. keep it chill here. any bigotry will result in an immediate ban.
  2. all playlist posts must include at least one playlist. you can either just drop a streaming link or go all out with a list and cover art, whatever you want!
  3. multiple playlists per post are allowed
  4. non-playlist posts must be about music and/or playlists in some regard, including discussion on music recording formats or playlist making or anything that might suit the community. if you're unsure, feel free to comment here
  5. if needed, provide content warnings for the subject matter of your playlist if it's something heavy or potentially triggering
  6. recommendations of playlists by other people are allowed, though you might wanna get permission before sharing it if you don't know the person? up to you though i don't think there's anything necessarily harmful about sharing a public playlist

tag guidelines:

  • this is pretty low pressure for the record
  • tag your non-fandom playlists as "playlist", tag your fanmixes as "fanmix"
  • for fanmixes, optionally, you can tag the fandom with the prefix "fandom:" followed by the fandom name. for instance, the first fanmix posted here is tagged as "fandom: kamen rider"
  • if you post photos of a cassette mixtape or burned CD, tag them as "mixtape" (and/or "tape") or "cd" respectively
  • tag non-playlist posts as "discussion"

resources and more:

optional posting format:

(this is completely optional, format however you want, but if you don't know how to format and want a template then use the template below and edit as needed)

that's about it! comment if you have any questions!

THE MAGICIAN
— I wish I had a metal heart, I could cross the line

A fanmix for the glorious evolution of Viktor from Arcane: League of Legends.

track list, lyrics, and listening links found here!

Cover to a first volume fanmix made for the publishing line Tangent Comics. It has green and dark green lines above and below the middle image, which is of the character Arthur Thompson stopping two rockets. Text includes logo and title, as well as electronic packaging imitating the series' original covers.
Back cover to the fanmix. The background image is a blurry edited image of a nuclear bomb, a panel taken directly from the comics. On top are more green and dark green lines going sideways on the right side, with the left side being rectangles filled with pictures of characters from the first run of Tangent Comics. On the right side is also the tracklisting of the fanmix, imitating the trilingual nature of the original run, in English, French and Japanese.

Volume 1 of TANGENT COMICS FANMIX: Mushroom Cloud Generation

8tracks (for what it's worth...) | youtube | spotify (missing "we will bury you" and "voices from a submerged sea")

{a mix that eases you into a world of day-to-day nuclear living, hidden truths and mysteries, as well as the occasional merry-go-rounds of happiness. listening while reading is recommended but not necessary for complete enjoyment.}

--my first post! hope I did it right, and that you enjoy. I made the fanmix and graphics back in 2012/2013 and it still slaps. more to come way later :)

I compiled a tracklist + lyric snippets for the (very long) writing playlist I had for a fic WIP I completed over the summer. It's at my journal :)

I always find it fun to approach writing project-specific mixes differently than a general character/ship fanmix; I'm usually a bit looser with mood and genre, as it corresponds more to the arc of the story than just commenting on the canon themes/dynamics as they are, but hopefully also feels cohesive.

This one features a lot of stuff that sits at the interstice of where noise, metal, industrial, and experimental electronic music run up against folk and acoustic instrumentation. It's probably worth a listen if that's your jam whether or not you have further context.

The lyrics deal with violence and abuse, as well as sexually explicit content.

Clink the cover art and it'll take you there:

a hot pink translucent mini disc on a white sheet of paper. the mini disc has a sticker label on it that's a web-core edit of haerin from new jeans, her photo at a warped angle with pixelated distorted blue and white sparkling clouds tiled behind her and a big translucent rainbow on top of the whole image

k-pop remixes

no fancy aesthetic title for this one because i couldn't think of one so it's exactly what it says on the tin lol. two unbalanced sides of k-pop remixes, by fans and then official! i recorded this so far just to minidisc, i wanted to include the somewhat obscure official momoland thumbs up remix but i couldn't fit it on the disc unfortunately (only 74 minutes available!). i also wanted to throw in a couple more faves like yunu in the house ditto remix and the rina sawayama remix of eve psyche by le sserafim but yeah, ran outta time. oh well! maybe i'll try to fit them on a longer tape.

i split these into two sides but obviously minidisc doesn't do sides like records or tape. it's just for like, organizational purposes when posting this i guess :P if i record this onto a 90 minute tape (which then of course i'll have more space for those remixes i couldn't fit in) i'll add a new picture and revised track listing!

a cassette tape in a clear plastic case and a purple daiso mini disc next to it. the tape has a j-card and the mini disc a matching label, both vary but have the same image of the XG rap line members in the trampoline thumbnail with 'X G A L X' spelled out vertically beside it

XG TAPEZ

i've been SUPER obsessed with XG and i adore their XG tape series, in which their rap members do solos or unit performances on existing beats with new lyrics, and the name had me going... why don't i put these on a tape? so i did that! and i ended up putting it on a mini disc too just to use my new sticker paper. i messed up the label a little but for my first go i'm pretty happy with it.
