Challenge #2: Pets of Fandom
Loosely defined! Post about your pets, pets from your canon, anything you want!

I don't have any pets of my own. Dogs are cute, but ever since I was a kid, I was more into cats. However, my parents didn't want a pet and to be honest, I'm self aware enough to know that I wouldn't be able to take care of one. The first apartment we lived in when we moved to California was nice in the sense that there were other people with pets my sister and I could play with. Our upstairs neighbor had four cats and two dogs! They were all very sweet.

My favorite fictional pet is definitely Salem from Sabrina The Teenage Witch. That sarcastic cat was really funny and definitely one of the best parts of the show. I also have a soft spot for Luna from Sailor Moon. I watched Homeward Bound way too many times and I love all three of them but Sassy was the best.

And of course, Shelby from Smallville (see icon). That dog was adorable and I was always happy when they let him pop in. He literally saved Clark's life! And he had good taste, because he liked Lois right away, even when Lois was ... apprehensive. My sister still calls him "Clarkie" though!

As far as my current fandom goes, I'm not trying to fall into stereotypes but I do stand by the belief that they should let Buck get a dog (so close in s8!) and Eddie get a cat. It would be adorable. :)

Dead Horses by Freya JN is now available for purchase physically and digitally! It was one of my favorite reads of 2025. In Twitter/meme terms, absolute cinema. Highly highly highly recommend it if you like messy catgirls, intentional worldbuilding, and storytelling that trusts its readers. CW: some violence and horror.

Life:

I've been doing Yoga with Uliana's 30-day yoga challenge. It's only 10 mins a day with a focus on gentle movement and mobility. As I still have lingering cough/cold symptoms this is the ideal level of exercise for me even though the inversions make me miserable. (•ᴗ•،،)

I've been trying to use the start of the new year as an impetus to fix my sleeping schedule for the sake of my physical health. It is: not going well. I'm still having trouble falling asleep (probably anxiety) and feeling attacked by how there is too little time in the day to do ANYTHING (...probably also anxiety). BUT I've been better at thinking about going to bed at 10PM.

Bird updates: the (narra?) tree across the street is going through its balding phase, and I've been seeing the little egret—which stopped hanging out on this tree in 2025 and appears to be favoring low areas, presumably near water sources—perch on its bare branches. So that's pretty exciting.

* There is a Hockey sub on DW, but the last post was that the player lock out is over. That was a very long time ago. Would be nice to have a hockey discussion or friending meme on here, but I have retired from running that sort of thing.

* Kraken had an amazing pair of days. Had to play back to back games, won both. One rookie got his NHL first goal in one game, the other rookie got his first *and* second in the other. Veteran team player and OG Kraken McCann got a goal with four tenths of a second remaining. In hockey, it's not just the seconds that count it's the tenths of a second.

* In response to the photo of Melanson with the puck from his first goal people on reddit were all like 'wow that is a hockey player alright'. Our team's own announcers have been saying he looks like the first google result for hockey player. ( What do they mean?? )

I'm really excited over posting the first a) slash and b) NSFW Special Rescue Exceedraft fanfiction that I want to announce it right away rather than just including it in a future round up of my most recent fanworks.

The story is available only on Squidgeworld. Some day, I'll import to AO3 my fics exclusively posted there once I could better deal with getting hits and nothing else for my rare pair fics of little known fandoms.

Special Rescue Exceedraft, which is the third and final installment of the tokusatsu Metal Heroes Rescue Police trilogy, has been fully subbed for about 4 years but has hardly any fanworks in spaces frequented by English-speak tokusatsu fans. That is, until I started creating and posting my fanworks! Now at least I know it's untrue that 'nobody' watches the show, which for now is a common perception in the larger toku community. ('Nobody' also includes those on Xitter who posted liveblogs and screencaps and encouraged me to marathon the show to get to the episodes that look most interesting).

I know hollowbolding and I are virtually alone on team 'Moiraine and Siuan's romantic relationship was over before we saw them meet and Siuan died exactly as and when she should have' but that has never stopped me from making my feelings everyone else's problem anyway. Happy new year? Have a Toni/Mariah icon because my paid time ran out and I am debating whether it's reasonable for me to purchase more despite how much I think the site deserves it, given how little I'm here.
