irony

a burned CD in a translucent pink slim jewel case with a hot pink translucent mini-disc on top, the mini-disc has a cut label on the label section that has 'irony' written on it vertically, while the CD case has no cover and simply shows the disc inside that has 'irony' written on it

THE MINIDISC REVOLUTION IS UPON US

i have been obsessed with minidiscs for the past month. they're a dead format by sony that made optical discs tiny and put them in colorful floppy disk-like cartridges and the players fit in the palm of your hand and they're ADORABLE and FUTURISTIC and the BEST. you can learn more about them at the community-run minidisc wiki because i can't distill its history in just one post but it's very rich and interesting!

anyway my note for this mix over at [community profile] illcocytus was "the centerpiece of this mix was lips by snsd and the percussion in it and then it morphed into this" so i hope that explains this mix well enough

full cover art cover art for this mix which is an edit of natty from kiss of life in a teaser for their track midas touch, where she wears an elaborate outfit and poses kneeled on the floor with her head tilted and arms behind her head

Minidiscs! We definitely used those a lot at university/various radio stations. At one point, one station had a stack of 'emergency' hour-long shows on them of a friend and I doing incredibly vague commentary between unremarkable songs. How often they got used, I'm not sure, but they were a thing.

I think I finally pitched the last few I had around, having no way to play them and no actual desire to listen to old projects/demos from the early-00's. But they were great for industry/student use. (The blank, re-recordable ones I mean. I only ever saw a handful of commercial releases and it's a little sad they didn't catch on, but they just came too soon to when full CD adoption was just finishing and nobody was quite ready to move on again.)
